Core 1
Comprehensive Welding
This is a 10 week course (320 hours)
Monday-Thursday, 8:00-4:00 pm & Friday 8:00-12:00 pm
COST: $6,300.00
Two AWS/WABO Qualification Tests Included
Tools: Extra
Total: $6,300.00
This practical hands-on course is designed to provide a foundation and build your skills in the welding processes. Each student will be trained in the proper welding fundamentals, skills and techniques necessary for producing code approved welds. Student welding is 90% of the time, classes are stand-up lecture and/or classroom theory. This course is about gaining the welding ability and skills needed for success. Processes covered are:
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) “Stick”
- FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) “Dual shield/Inner shield”
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) “Mig”
- Oxy-Acetylene and Oxy-Fuel cutting
Course Objective:
The course is designed for the student to have a good understanding, solid foundation, and the skills needed for a career in welding. Each student will be trained in the SMAW and FCAW welding processes for performing full penetration welds in all positions.
Processes Covered:
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) “Stick”
- FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) “Dual shield/Inner shield”
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) “Mig”
- Oxy-Acetylene welding, cutting, heating, and brazing
Course Content:
- Welding safety and instruction
- Oxy-Acetylene safety and proper use when cutting
- Arc and wire feed welding equipment set-up
- Wire feed gas selection – pros and cons
- Electrode designation and storage
- Fillet welds – how to properly weld and measure them
- Identification of welding symbols
- How to read basic blueprints
- How to read and use a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
- Weld and fit up of groove welds
- Perform air carbon arc gouging
- How to trouble shoot welding equipment
- Complete joint penetration welds, with and without backing
- Grinding safety
Students will be taught the joint designs used in structural fabrication. Each welder will be given multiple projects from groove welds with backing and without backing. Welders will be taught basic fit-up, pre-heat and basic joint tolerances and how to properly weld these joints. The final project will be all position welding on plate, with the opportunity to test for two AWS certifications in either SMAW or FCAW (Typically in the 3G or4G positions)
Other Welding Courses Available
The 5-week beginner/intermediate course covers the welding processes, techniques, and fundamentals for SMAW, and FCAW. Flat, horizontal, and vertical welding is performed with the goal of passing the FCAW 3G qualification test. One AWS welding qualification test with WABO is included in the course. All welding will be on mild steel.
5 week course (160 hours)
Welders entering this 5-week course will already have existing welding knowledge and foundational skills. The course will build upon that foundation and includes oxy/acetylene and the SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes. Out of position and full penetration welding are the primary focus. One AWS SMAW or FCAW welding qualification test with WABO is included in the course. All welding is on mild steel.
5 week course (160 hours)
This advanced 8-week course trains the experienced welder to become a qualified 6G pipe welder. Prior certification in one or more of the other welding processes is required. The course includes proper joint preparation, open root welding, and one 6G pipe test. Welding will be on steel pipe.
8 week course (256 hours)
The GTAW (Tig) course offers a 2-week course to learn steel and stainless steel welding. The four week course includes two weeks of aluminum welding. Testing is available, but is not included in the course.
2 -4 week course (64 -128 hours)
