What You’ll Learn In This Class

It is recommended that students entering this course have a good foundation of welding knowledge and/or prior welding experience. Student welding is 95% of the time; classes are stand-up lecture and/or classroom theory.

The student will learn how to perform welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum by using the appropriate filler materials, gas, and techniques for each metal. A proficiency test will be performed at the end of the course.

Course Content & Objectives

The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process (GTAW), which is also known as the Tungsten Inert Gas process (TIG), allows you to make high quality welds on thin material. Steel, Stainless steel and aluminum are the most common applications, but you can also weld chrome-moly, titanium, inconel and other base metals.

We will show you how to match the correct tungsten and filler material to the base metal, as well as the correct procedures and techniques in using the foot control and torch. There will be plenty of hands-on practical bench work for aluminum, steel, and stainless steel welding.

The student will learn how to prep material, perform fit-up, and do welding on steel and
stainless steel in the two week course. The four week course includes two weeks of aluminum welding. Each project will be tested on pass or fail basis.

  • Identification of tungsten electrodes and their use
